Last-Minute Effort Made to Avoid Partition London, July 26.
In connection with the journey of the Secretary for the Colonies, Mr. William Ormsby-Gore, to Geneva to submit the Royal Commission's report on Palestine to the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations, the "Morning Post" reports that discussions are new taking place in London between Jewish and Arab representatives of moderate leanings.
The discussions, says the paper, are prompted by the hope of reaching an eleventh-hour understanding to prevent the partition of Palestine. The paper stresses that the importance of these conversations should not be exaggerated.
The "Daily Herald" states that the leaders of British Jewry are prepared to accept the partition plan if number of important modifications are made.—Trans-Ocean.
