The Watch Committes on July 20 made recommendations to the Shang. hal Municipal Council as-follows:
Consequent "on the recently authorized reduction in Fire Brigade machines, it was recommended to the Committee that the Tiendong Road Sub-Station, which ig leased on a monthly rental, be closed down and the machines Housed there be trans ferred to a temporary. structure adjoining Central Fire Station on the former Central Police Station site, Members were informed that the cost of the structure would be approx: Amately $7,000 and the Committee approved the recommendation, The Committee had before it a letter from the Automobile Club of China protesting against "the car parking restriction scheme which has been notified by the Council a3 come ing into effect on September and Suggesting that the scheme be with= drawn and the status quo maintained, Members, however, considered that, the scheme should be proceeded with, The Council on July 22 approv-these recommendations, until. the results accruing from its experiments in abating the nuisance can be assured, 'The problem' received further consideration by the Watch Commiltce on July 16, which was also attended by senior ° representatives of the Power Company. Opinions onthe effectiveness of this "measure differ very radically but the Company has decided "that in the -next plant extension (which "is to be started almost immediately) higher chimneys will be provided in order to ascertain results. "At the same lime the Company is also making provision for washers, "in case -the: chimneys increased height do not achieve the desired results, The Council on July 22 endorsed the recommendations of the Watch Committee,
