The s. Canton Maru arrived yes: terday morning from Hongxong en route to Taiwan. As usual the Custom officers boarded the vessel on its arrival, The officers wished to exanline the female passengers but the men angrily remonstrated. One officer, however, insisted on searching them and discovered 42 belts of silver, valued at over $2,000, Woxe Chi-shipg, said to be a form-for political agent of Generals Chen Chistang and Li Tsung-jen, was assassinated on the evening of August at Changchow, Fukien, while walking along a street. About 17 shots were fired by the two assassins, who escaped, says the "Shun Pao."
