Americans Advised Not to Return at Present

Inquiries have been received by the American authorities from Americans absent from Shanghai on business or holiday, and, in a few instances, from American women and children who left the port on the advice of the American authorities, as to whether the situation is now such as to make it possible for them to return here.

The American Consul General, acting in consultation with the' Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Asiatic Fleet, states that it is most inadvisable for American women and children to return here to reside until conditions become stabilized. There has been no objection to the return to Shanghai of men who have business and other interests here requiring their attention.
