The withdrawal of Chinese ffoops from the Civic Centre area began early yesterday morning in accordance with pre-arranged plans, the spokesman said. A rearguard action was successfully fought and the evacuation was completed without a hitch.
Contrary to expectations, the spokesman said, the Japanese forces failed to push forward in the region of Yanghang. This was believed due to the heavy losses sustained by them during operations last Saturday. Chinese troops from this sector had also reached their new positions safely, he said.
