Paris, Aug. 21.
The strike in Northern France. is collapsing and has completely ended at Lille where the unions have accepted the compromise suggested by M. Laval, the Minister of Labour, whereunder the employfers undertake to increase wages in the event of a further risg of the cost of living.
While however work will be resumed at Lille on Friday, the dispute at Roubaix and Tourcoing is not yet settled chiefly owing to the attitude of the local chairman of the federation of textile industrialists who, however, is being severely cut cized in his own ranks.
Moreover, it is believed that the workers are slowly losing heart and faith in the Communists in whose bulwark, Halluin, riotous scenes ensued when it was discovered that the Communist leaders had used the relief funds of the workers for more party purposes while the strik-cers and their families were starving. Here the police had to be mabi zed to save the Communist leaders from the wrath of their erstwhile followers.—Trans-Ocean Kuo Min.
