Fast OcR Own ConmesronDenT

Hankow, Sept. 3.

The summer in Hankow this year has been an exceptionally short one. The thermometer did not reach 90

[degrees till June 27, and reached st apparently for the last time this year on August 25, a spell of exactly sixty days. in view of the difficulties of getting a holiday this has been exceptionally fortunate for the residents. During the hot spell the temperature only fell below 90 degrees on nine days and only on two of these nine did it go below 185 degrees. There is really little to choose between 89 degrees, oF even 87 degrees, and 90-degrees in moist Hankow.
