Japanese Express Thanks

Japanese naval authorities here yesterday expressed their appreciation of the gallant rescue of the crew of a Japanese plane, which made a forced landing in the open sea, by the s. Soochow, of Messrs, Butterfield & Swire.

Badly damaged in a combat with two Chinese aircraft over Lochang. on the Canton-Hankow Railway, the Japanese plane was making a desperate effort to reach Formosa, when its engines stopped functioning.

The landing, the Japanese statement said, was made at about 4 p.m. about 45 miles southwest of the Tungting Island forts.

Soon afterwards, the Soochow have in sight and picked up the crew of the Japanese plane. At 11 pin, meeting a Japanese destroyer, sent in search of the missing fliers, the British ship transferred its involuntary passengers to the Japanese warship.
