Interest centres at present in the Panchan Lama and his movements on the Roof of the World. The date was set for the Panchan's r@urn to his old home at Drashe Lhumbo and ihe Lhasa Government had given its consent provided the Panchan made no attempt to enter Lhasa. This the Panchan and his entourage agreed to, deciding to travel by Nachuka, north of the sacred capital Word has come now that the Lhasa Government has hurriedly withdrawn its permission to the Panchan to enter Tibet from Jyekundo—so what next? The Panchan very carefully agreed to all the terms laid down by Lhasa, refraining in every way to give any cause for offence.
Report has it that he had already sent inva considerable quantity of his baggage by camel, preparing io follow very soon himself when there comes this from the blue. The Panchan is now determined, having waited beyond the point of endurance, to force his way into the Forbidden Land and occupy his own lamasery and hundreds of his lama followers from Drashe Lhumbo have already joined him at Jyekundo and are quite prepared to fight their way through to Shigatse, west of Lhasa, Apparently what has happened is like this: The Lhasa authorities evidently gave their permission for the Panchan to return but hearing by wireless of the serious trouble in China they at once withdrew this permission and now refuse him entry into his own country and residence in his own lamasery. Why, still remains to be seen., Everythini has not yet been smoothed out between the Dalai Party and the Panchan Party and in between these two parties hovers the Young Party. Should the Panchan persist and force his way towards Nachuka and Dzang there is every possibility of very serious trouble and danger to the life of the spiritual head of lamaland.
Should, however, the Panchan remain at Jyekundo with his entourage till the present trouble in China is settled there is again the possibility that he may be able to return to Drashe Lhumbo, provided he does not act foolishly and run counter to the Lhasa authorities.
