Peiping, Oct. 25.
The Japanese drive towards Taiyuanfu, capital of Shansi, is meeting with vigorous opposition from the Chinese troops entrenched in the Hsinkou Mountains, in the north of the ' province, and the Niangtzekwan Pass, in eastern Shansi.
The Japanese military spokesman seid to-day that a small Japanese force, pushing westward, had attained a position inside the Pass, but that Chinese troops, having made detour through the hills north and south of the Pass, were hampering the Japanese advance. Guerilla warfare, he added, was going on incessantly.
Meanwhile, the Chinese who were recently pushed back into the Hsinkou Mountains, staged a determined counter-attack, but, according to a Japanese military communique, they were repulsed.—Reuter.
