Hangchow, May 11.
Dr. E, W, Luceock of Shanghai pala a brief visit to Hangchow and gave the community a timely message of warning against the dangers attending the rush and hurry of the present generation. The bane of the. times was the speed mania which was! largely responsible for the Priest.and Levite principle of selfish concentra tion on rushing from one place to another and missing the opportuni-les in the way.
The. discourse was based on the Incident of Jesus sitting beside the well, Tt was an interlude, and_the speaker remarked that some of the major miracles of our Lord were performed in the midst of interrupt {ion "while He was in the way." Dr. Elliott, former president of Harvard, was quoted as saying, that nine-tenths of the things of the daily Found were plain ordinary drudgery, and worthy "ministry never issued from the "whims of genius, The great peril of modern life was pre-Sceupation, schooling the mind to concentrate on the things undertaken for the moment, and so missing the opportunities "in between."
"The positive philosophy of Jesus Christ taught one great lesson, and that was, to. seize the ordinary opportunity and treat it in an extra-Ordinary way. Failure in the Christ fan ministry largely rose from the fact that the common opportunities failed to find accesses to our attention and receive, from us, the response they deserved. The true interpretation of life and Christian service is found in making life more liveable. to all round.
