Good Times Recorded

San Diego, Jan. 18-

The eighteen giant Navy planes which are being down to Hawaii on a "routine transfer" were 1,574 miles from San Diego at eleven p.m. tonight, having completed over half their trip without incident. At that time they were flying at an altitude of 7,000 feet, maintaining an average speed of 142 miles per hour.

The bombers had considerably improved their 3 pin. record, which placed them 565 miles offshore for an average speed of only 104.5 miles hourly. At that time they were flying at 10,000 feet in an effort to find better wind conditions, strong head winds having impeded their progress.

When they passed the station ship Reid, 650 miles out, the squadron ran into better weather conditions, and were expected to have tail winds for the remainder of the trip, which is expected to consume under 20 hours. ' Weather conditions were described aq the best which have attended any of the mass flights to Hawaii
