The Municipal Advocate states in his report that 5,447 cases were pro-secured in the Shanghai First Special Area District Court and the Kiangsu High Court, Second Branch, during December, as compared with 3,840 cases in November. Out of the total number of cases prosecuted, 4,147 were Administrative Cases and 1,300 were Criminal Cases. Out of the total number of Administrative Cases brought to trial, 3,022 persons failed to appear and their bail was confiscated, while 29 cases were withdrawn, as compared with 2,245 cases in which bail was confiscated and 5 cases. withdrawn in November. 1,096
Administrative Cases were pro-secured to completion, out of which umber 1,088 persons were convicted and 8 acquitted. 42 Criminal Cases were withdrawn and 1,258 were pro-secured to completion, out of which number 1,121 persons were convicted and 137 acquitted. The total number of Administrative and Criminal Cases prosecuted to completion was 2,354 as compared with 1,525 cases in November. 2,209 persons were convicted and 145 acquitted, as compared with 1,427 persons convicted and 98 acquitted in November.
In addition to the above, there were 31 private criminal prosecutions, as compared with in November.
