Korean Tries to Fight Dance Hostess

Following close on the heels of the Duffy two disturbances at the Paramount Ballroom and the Yangtze Hotel, involving Japanese, a third incident occurred at the Great Eastern Cabaret, attached to the Great Eastern Hotel, in the Wing On Building, about 7.30 pum. yesterday. The story as told io a "North-China Daily News" reporter by the manager soon afterwards, was that four hooligans, either Japanese or Koreans, but believed io be the latter, entered the cabaret at about 7.10, sat down at a table, and ordered two bottles of beer, and a pack of cards. All went well for about a quarter of an hour, until two of the party got up and chose couple of Chinese hostesses for a dance.

One of the men then proceeded te lie down full length on the dance floor. Later, he got up, and made as if to fight the girl with whom he was daneing, and who had remonstrated at his uncouth behaviour in lying down on the dance floor. A foreigner who was sitting in a corner. came forward and told the man to stop menacing the girl whereupon the trouble-maker put up his fists, and engaged in a scufüe with the foreigner. The manager of the cabaret came forward to intervene, and he was also pushed. At the same time, the man's three Come panions followed his example and created a disturbance, overturning tables, flinging beer bottles and glasses across the room, and threatening patrons with their fists. Most of the dancers then left; the floor when the fight broke out between the hooligan and the foreigner, but the band of Russian musicians went on playing as the patrons gathered around the edge of the floor and watched the two struggling in the middle. j After running amok for several minutes, annoying patrons and creating a disturbance, the party left and about five minutes later police from Louza Station arrived at the cabaret. With the departure of the gang, patrons resumed dancing, and order was quickly restored.
