London, July 43.
Most alarming rumours are being circulated here on the situation in Yugoslavia.
Trucks of armed gendarmes are said to be patrolling the streets of Belgrade and demonstrations are occurring every hour. The situation is reported to have become more intense when it was learned that Patriarch Varnava, head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, was near death. It is feared that if his death should occur before the present crisis is settled, very serious disorders might develop in the country with the disappearance of his pacifying influence.
Several patriotic associations issued manifestoes to-day condemning the attitude of the Government in the question of the Concordat.—Havas.
