With smooth sailing almost assured ihe Government to-day confidently awaited the formal opening on Sunday of the 7151 special session of the Diet.
Leaders of all the parties in both Chambers were reported to be eagerly awaiting the first suitable opportunity to pass a resolution upholding the Governments policy in North China and thanking the Japanese Garrison in Tien!
The special session was' convoked is morning, to decide on committee appointments and to elect House ders. Mr. Shoju Koyama, lead-member of the majority Minseito arty, was chosen Speaker. and Mr. Yasuo Kanemitsu, of the Seiyukai, Vice-Speaker The opening ceremony will take place on Sunday in the presence of Emperor Hirohito.
With Monday devoted to the adoption of rules of procedure and other formalities, the Diet will plunge into regular business on Tuesday. when the Premier. Prince Fumimaro Konoye: the Foreign Minister, Mr. Koki Hirota. and the Finance Minister, Mr, Okinori Kaya, address both Chambers.
