U.S. INACTIVE GOLD BOARD SHRINKS

Washington, July 22.

Inactive gold in the United States on Tuesday amounted to $1,170,821,000, less than on Monday which partly represents the gold sold to China, according to a statement issued by the United States Department of Treasury to-day.

It is understood by Dow-Jones, however, that the gold sold to China has obviously exceeded $40,000,000 while they believe that the shrinkage of gold was partly attributed to gold lost to British and Netherlands Controls, Meanwhile, it is indicated that the Treasury will retire the bills issued for financing gold purchases, The opinion is expressed that a definite view at present is uncertain, in view of the large influx of gold from Japan, although the influx from Europe has been halted.—Reuter.
