PARKS AND CHINESE An Appreciation To, the Editor of the

"Norta-Cunsa Dalny News."

Sim;—In view of the fact that we! Chinese residents and our children in the Eastern District are practic~ ally without any parks provided for Us, a suggestion was made by me sometime ago to the Shanghai Municipal Council of, International Settlement that the existing parks, Studley and Wayside, twal be thrown open to persons of nationality too instead of being reserved exclusively for the foreign In response to my suggestion the Council took up the matter promptly, and after due consideration, decided to open beginning from to-day the above mentioned two parks to our Chinese community on the same terms and conditions as to foreigners. Municipal notification to that effect has been published in the press.

The action this taken fulfills the need of some "lung" spaces which has long been felt in the densely] populated Eastern District.

Herewith I beg to express my high preciation of what our Counelll done in this matters; and do sincerely hope that the same alertness and promptitude will always guide our Council in attending to things concerning the welfare and interests of the Chinese residents in the settlement.
