It is absolutely necessary to have space to accommodate at least 500 (and that is a miserable minimum, preferably 1000 to 1500) workers in one industrial camp—and we need a minimum of six such camps in different parts of Shanghai. At first ght many will be inclined to say Why such industrial camps? Why not let the refugees work in the Camps where they are? The answer is quíckly forthcoming, In an Industrial Camp supervision is made possible, and the work is on a business like footing; the "leakage" of merchants' valuable material is controlled—and the leakage in the past has been so great that merchants could no longer promise ce-operation, so much material wasted by un super. vised, or inadequately supervised work.
Will anyone of our readers offer us the use of vacant property suitable for carrying on such industrial work?
We need helpers. Will any of our foreign friends offer their services one day a week. The merchant has his own supervisor or trainer who superintends and passes on all work done—that responsibility is his; but this whole scheme is sponsored by the Shanghai International Red Cross and we need the ce-operation of foreign friends. With a band of copable and willing workers each Industrial Camp would be under daily "relay" supervision by at least one Chinese and one foreign helper Only in this way will the merchant feel that his valuable material W* under suitable protection. Unfor tunately many ladies who had volunteered their services for this work. missionaries, are new being called upon to teach in the various schools at are being opened this month make an appeal for help to replace these volunteers. The merchants are ce-operating with us and we must ce-operate with them. Who will help us? Surely the cause is a worthy one. Help the Red Cross and other Charitable Organizations to rehabilitate the refugees. Help the refugees to help themselves. Owners of vacant y, can you offer us the ich property? Ladies who are the owners of spare time, can you, and will you offer us a little of your time—one day week, or even-half a day regularly. We ask your ce-operation, Those who can help are asked to communicate with Mrs. Roben, F. Fitch, room. 520. Missions Building 169 Yuen Ming Yuen Road.
