Wery interesting badminton play was witnessed yesterday evening at the French Glub where Canada (WAH, Duff and CH, Duff) met France (Meise and Chaillan) un the second round of the Whalley International Shield, The outcome of the contest put Canada into the semi-finals, 'Nerves' were rather a feature of the play, In the first sett Canada were very unsettled whilst in the Jast France were definitely rattled, The play of the first sett was concentrated upon C. Duff who must have been called upon to take 00 per cent, of (he returns on his side of the net and it was not until the following sett that 'Stick' Duff took a more prominent part in the proceedings, The Duff Brothers certainly warmed-up at this stage and the play changed from pure hard hitting to first class badminton, 'Stick' Duff was conspicuous by his picking up of drives and his backhand play whilst his brother varied his game with effective drop-shots which helped a great deal in decid" ing the result of the match, In the second sett, Canada had two good service runs, In one instance they changed the score from 4-all io a lead of 10-4 and followed with a four-point service, bringing their lead to 13-4,
