The Metropolitan Water Board has decided to appoint am Air Raid Precautions Officer. Sir William Prescott presided over the meeting.
The General Purposes Committee reported that in consultation with the appropriate Government department a provisional scheme had been prepared to ensure the maintenance or speedy restoration of the water supply during and following an, air attack. The scheme included the provision of portable plant, the protection of principal pumping stations and work: and the protection of the operating staff.
The magnitude of the board's area of supply made it desirable that a whole-time air raid precautions officer should be appointed from outside the service. The committee considered that he should have technical ex perience of the subject, and that h should be engaged in a permanent capacity at a salary of not less than £700 year.
