COTTON, YARN, ETC

China Cotton: The market dur-jing the past week has been somewhat quiet so far as the volume lof trading is concerned and fluctuations though within a narrow Jdertone, due. to the firm range showed a rather steady unholdings on the part of the Bulls fand meagre arrivals from the interior arising from the slow movement and serious damage of the Jdomestic new crop. Prices for near months are about the same as last ruling but those for forward deliveries have receded about half a 'Tael and a slightly easier under tone ensued at the close. Spinners due to the higher prices prevailing for the domestic growth, are now manifesting greater interest in 'American and Indian staples, as the prices current on some are very' much cheaper and it is reported that the mils in general have contracted considerably for the foreign fibre during the week under review. A certain section of spin-nora is still adhering to a waiting latitude in the expectation of further lower values' of the. foreign staple and in the mean time it may noted that. they are paying no attention to. the local staple and will continue in that direction un-Ril such time og the parity is more fin consonance with that of the foreign bre of similar grades, In the circumstances therefore we {ail to. see any reason to depart from our former opinion, as one cannot help but recognise pre-tent prices of Chinese Cotton being: too high and unless exchange de-lines or 'a. considerable improve-tment takes place in the American fand Indian markets, which, by the way is very unlikely for the time Doing, there need be no. apprehension of any heavy rise in the local market, Therefore. it becomes ad-Visable to take advantage of firm markets tg sel, og the present out-oak appears to offer no founda ition for the expectation of higher ices in the long run.

Yarn: The declines experienced {in the local Exchange were brought shout mainly by general profit. taking hut toward the close. there twas evinced an advancing tendency which was engendered partly by Tumours of an expected strike in the Japanese Mills taking place next week and partly by: reports fcreulating in the ring that a eorfering movement isin process éi-rected mainly by Indian merelants fend due to such operations it becomes diffeuit to toroses what jeftcct such will have or what results will evolve from manipula tions of this nature mary, Spot ex 3350 Ningro, Spot ex-whart 23380 sucha, Bp 3350
