New Harbour and Docks for Capetown

British engineers have driven into the sea the first piles to mark the area to be reclaimed from Table Bay for the new harbour and dock works for Capetown.

The work will take at least five years -to complete, and then Capetown, will be able to give shelter to the largest ship afloat. The entire British fleet will be able to enter the harbour. It is estimated that the eventual cost will be $40,000,000.

Present port facilities are considered inadequate for the accommodation of trans-Atlantic liners, and when the Empress of Britain called at Capetown last year it was difficult to berth her.
