American Jamboree

The American Jamboree held at Edgewater Mansions on the evening fof Friday, August 6, to raise funds for the Tsingtao American School was 'a huge success. There were fully 1600 people of all nationalities attend ug. The whole of the floor was packed, including the commodious eleony. There was dancing to the hotel orchestra, which was in fine fettle. Games of chance, including black-Jack, roulette, cage-dice, crap, fan-tan, poker, Russian Bonk and others, lot tories' with cash prizes, lotteries for cakes and hams, dancing competitions for sailors, and civilians (Chinese and Foreign) and individual turns naval and civilian songsters and others. The Committee of 16 local Americans, were ably assisted by their wives and US. naval officer friends and men and all worked tremendously hard to achieve the success the affair most certainly was. The very handsome sum of $5,000—was realised for the school and this with last year's $4,000 make up a tidy sum. Men from the theatts and friends and helped considerably. to make the evening the success it was. Coot' weather prevailed fortunately fo make things just comfortable. It is a pity that the British community Jdoes not seem to be able to get up a similar affair for the benefit of 'Tsingtao's British School, St. Giles'
