Geneva, Oct, 17

Germany's total military expenditure for the current year was returned at Mks. 707,000,000 a supplementary note addressed by the Reich to the League of Nations Secretariat in reply to the latter's armament questionnaire.

The bulk of the 707 millions is absorbed by the army estimates. the note states, while of the total, 352; millions ate spent on wages" and salaries, which is explained by the fuct that the German army" and navy, being professional, are far more costly than armies and navies based on the conscript system. The space provided in the questionnaire for aircraft is left blank, the German Government explaining in a footnote that under the Versailles Treaty Germany is not permitted to maintain an aly force.—Trans-
