Only recently I was playing the part of a gangster's wife in "Think of a Number,' at the Comedy Theatre, where I had to talk about crime and G-men.
But I never imagined that I should ever be the central figure in a real police-court, or that the ordeal of being wrongly charged with theft would be so terrifying and nerve-shattering.
I am free now; free to walk the quiet, peaceful lanes of the lovely Kent country-side, and surrounded by staunch and loving friends, but T doubt if I shall ever be able to forget the nightmare through which I have passed, Perhaps one day I may have to play on the stage the part of a woman wrongfully accused.
In a way I shall dread it, but I shall be able to play the part with an emotion and understanding that no actress, who has not actually Been through such an ordeal, could visualize.
