A Little Lesson

A second soloist, this, time with a negro spiritual up his sleeve, sprang to the fore. After he had given of his best, the assistant stage manager, also a well-known cabaret. artiste, sprang on to the stage, gave the signal for the band to strike up, and showed the company how the song should really be sung. The original soloist d again, this time with very much greater success; "it is remarkable the way in which our minstrel troupe has acquired a real stage technique, the stage manager told the "North-China Daily News." "Of course, there have been difficulties. We were trying to teach one -of the troupe a song which it seemed he would never learn. But he is coming along, and I am sure he will make a success of it when the time comes."

Tt is obvious, from observing a dress rehearsal that the men really intend to "go to town" on' this production, And nerve-wracked Shanghai residents, used to listening to gunfire, will find it much more congenial to watch a cheering group of amateur minstrels go through their paces.
