It has been observed, that while great abundance of funds and ma-
shortage of resources is experienced terials exists in one hospital or camp, by other deserving units. In order to remedy and ameliorate such an unhappy state of affairs, the sponsors of the Shanghai Emergency" Relief Service have decided to organize this auxiliary unit aiming at an adjustment of the confusion prevalent among relief institutions. The essential object of the Service is to provide free facilities for assisting the contributing public in guiding, its donations into the needy channels. In the meantime, the Service is endeavouring to maintain close contact with all the hospitals and relief unit: as an independent ce-ordinating agent. The entire operating cost of the Service is to be borne by the sponsors thus enabling the- fullest benefit to be derived from public contributions.
The sponsors of the Service will only attempt to procure funds and relief or medical articles from their respective circles of friends. No public solicitation is to be made. The Service will issue Provisional Receipts acknowledging donated funds and articles to these friends. The Service will obtain such articles from its friends or make purchases of articles with collected funds. All the accounts and vouchers of the Service will be inspected by prominent chartered accountants and published periodically in local Chinese and English language newspapers.
It is hoped that all the hospitals and relief camps in Shanghai will register with the Service from time to time the required articles, and distribution will be judiciously made. However, if the public has-funds or articles ready to contribute' to certain designated organizations or for general distribution at the discretion [of the Service, the facilities.of the Service are at its disposal. Either written or telephone communications may be directed to the Service. Address: 280 Kiukiang Road, Phone 95562.
