Throughout yesterday there was a severe bombardment by the Japanese of the Chinese gun positions in Pootung. Occasionally warships and a transport moored on the Settlement side, blazed at point blank range into ihe ruined ship-yard at Pootung Point apparently in search of the Observation point of the Chinese batteries, Other shells landed at different positions well inland, and aeroplanes from the new Japanese aerodrome at the Shanghai university, zoomed overhead in the attempt to locate the Chinese, but without Success.
The Yinghsiangkong race course was bombed and shelled at intervals during the day, while beyond Nantao there were a number of bombs dropped onthe Kiangnan arsenal and dockyard. There was little loss of life. Shells dropped near the Commercial Press building in Chapei and in the vicinity of the Civic Centre at different periods during the day.
