Council Thanks S.V.C — Community's Gratefulness Felt at Annual March

Mr. Cornell S. Franklin, Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Council, has sent the following letter to Col. J. W. Hornby, M.C., Commandant of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps:—

I wish to add the Council's commendation to the tribute to the Corps so manifestly paid: by the community en the occasion of the annual parade yesterday.

It was with a very great degree of pride that the march past was witnessed, carried out as it was with the utmost precision and soldierly bearing, attesting the high degree of training and discipline attained by all ranks of the Corps and the Russian Detachment, Moreover, need I say that the community and the Council were yesterday availing themselves of an opportunity to express whole-hearted thanigs to this branch of their defenders during Shanghai's recent unprecedented crisis? By the splendid discharge of their severe responsibilities on that occasion the historic annals of the Shanghai Volunteer- Corps have again been greatly enriched.

I desire to add to the appreciation which the Council wishes extended to all ranks of the Corps, its grateful acknowledgment of the services of yourself and of the headquarters' staff.
