Province in Spring

Chengtu, Oct. 1.

Instead of being a burden on the Central Government insofar as food supply is concerned. Szechuen, famine-stricken as recently as last spring, will not only be able to yield enough to feed its own populace but will have a surplus to replenish the nation's granaries this autumn, With the exception of the northern parts of the province, where only an inferior harvest is to be expected because of the drought earlier this year, crops in eastern Szechuen will measure up to about 80 per cent. of the normal output while a 100 per cent. output has been forecast in western districts.—Central News.
