BUDGET DEFICIT IN U.S. GROWS

President Estimates Increase of $600,000,000

New York, Oct. 18.

Broadcasting an appeal for private help for relief work, President Roosevel: to-day indicated his determination to balance the Budget.

Unless Federal taxes were to be greatly increased, he said, expendi-lures must be brought within existing tax receipts.

President Roosevelt estimates the United States Budget deficit at approaching $70,000,000. He adds that Estimatory changes, which several factors made necessary since April, have had the effect of increasing the deficit by $600,000,000. This increase, however, will be partially offset by economies. The gross deficit will aggregate $895,000,000.—Ruter.
