Sir Frederic Whyte Advocated Oil Sanction London, Oct. 23.
A course of action to bring peace to the Far East was suggested in a speech in London to-day by Sir Frederic Whyte, British author and journalist, If the war continued much longer, he declared, and Japan came to market for oil, Great Britain and America could tell her that they offered her no public humiliation through the operation of economic sanctions, but if she refused to meet them at the conference table they would apply an oil sanction against her. That was a more hopeful line of action, he averred, than to attempt a world-wide campaign for sanctions in the present circumstances. Such a policy, he concluded, was greatly strengthened by the Anglo-American trade agreement, the effect of which would not be lost on Tokyo, Berlin and Rome.—Reuter.
