From the Fashion Shows

The London dress shows still keep us busy, as it seems the Paris fashion houses are keeping the Duchess of Windsor busy during her stay in Paris. French designers are at the moment arranging elaborate displays for the Duchess, for her interest in their wares means a great deal to the dressmakers of the world.

In London, the short skirt for daytime and full-length skirt for evening wear is the accepted mode. Evening silhouettes are either straight and clinging or of the picture type, and black, with a striking colour contrast, is a welcome change in both day and evening wear, from the black and white dress scheme of a season ago. "Twin" and "triplet" fashions were shown at one dress display this week. Identical models worked out in different colour schemes were paraded together. Fine gold lame, woven in brilliant paisley Patterns, made two cocktail dresses shown simultaneously and short: sleeved dresses with crystal pleated skirts were in rust and green "lame respectively.

Contrasting linings gave bright touches of colour to dark coats at yet another show. A very smart black coat, fastened high to the neck, had slit hip pockets lined with scarlet, and opened to show a scarlet lining.' Colours are mixed ver cleverly this season. An olive green tweed coat was lined with pale blue and worn over a pale blue tweed suit. On an afternoon dress of black satin, a chiffon mash, half mauve and half rust, brightened the waistline.
