I was sitting on the top of a bus going from the Strand to Piccadilly the other day when an old gentleman bed up carrying a camera, and engaged the conductor in earnest conversation; finally the conductor said "Well, al right, sir, Ti ask my mate what we can do about ity" and disappeared. Ax we entered 'Trafalgar' Square the bus drew up beside the curb and. stopped,.the leonductor appeared and said' "It's all right, sir, but will you be quick." The od gentleman had already got his camera fixed, very deliberately he focussed it and photographed St, [Martin's Church then he said "Thank been done in any other city in the Bus conductors are never at a loss for a reply, the old jokes about the horse buses'hold good to-day, was travelling ina bus the other day Jwith a friend, it was very crowded, T was standing outside, my having gone on in.' The Jconductor came along and i said want two pennies please," (two penny tickets) he said "We have very nice twopenny ones to-(day, Miss."
Incidentally, an Italian friend from abroad says that the jway we thank each other when the Jconductor has taken our money and have taken his ticket amuses him very much, he says no Italian would lever dream of doing it.
