Systematic Robbing of Residences

The French authorities, who have taken over the eastern portion of the Hungjao Road district, yesterday came upon a cache of loot, mostly foreign property, in the abandoned Ma Ling canning factory, 119 Hungjao Road.

The discovery indicated that looting of residences in the area during the recent hostilities there had been systematic and that a sort of depot had been established at the Ma Ling plant for plunder obtained east of the railway line. The fortunes of war, however, prevented the disposal of the loot as undoubtedly contemplated A wide range of articles was represented in the property recovered by the French Police yesterday. There was a piano, for instance, and veral carpets—articles not easily lugged about. There were various smaller pieces of furniture as well. At the same time it is believed that some of the things taken by the looters have now been removed out of the local sphere and are therefore probably not recoverable.—The investigation will continue to-day.
