London, Oct, 1.
The season's experimental flights across the Atlantic were well concluded this week by Imperial Airways' flying-boat Cambria, which came across from Newfoundland to Ireland in the record time of 10 hr. 33 min. which is an average of 189 mp-h. the fastest crossing of the Atlantic ever made. The Cambrias commander was Capt G. J. Powell "who has thus completed four flights, two round crossings.
Just before the Cambria's record, Capt. Wileockson in the Caledonia had made his third return trip in 11 hrs. 38 min. He has a record all io himself, that of making six trips across the North Atlantic, which no other man has done. Capt. Gray, of Pan-American Airways has made three round trips also. but one of them was by the Lisbon-Azores route, which is generally considered less hazardous.
There was to have been one more round trip over the North Atlantic, but ice is already "forming on the Newfoundland side, So it has been abandoned.
