The Clubs of Pall Mall

AN "IMPIOUS STRANGER" DISAPPROVES THE AIR OF POLITE DISDAIN WITH — Wuic LONDON CLUBS REGARD THE COMMON HERD

With the zeal of a crusader, Hilaire Belloc is explaining to the British people that they are an aristocratic race, aristocratically governed, and like it very much indeed.

His thesis is sound and can easily be illustrated by taking a gentle stroll in the area sacred to clubdom, which is found in Pall Mall, St. Jamess Street, and St. James's Square. Here is a neighbourhood where we feel and know that we are rubbing shoulders with those who control the might of England and where there is an atmosphere of restrained opulence, natural ossumption of superiority, which does not excite the slightest hostility.
