To the Editor of the "NonrH-CHINA Darky News"
Sin—There has recently teen å lot of sentimental balderdash written about the Chinese, but they have only themselves to blame if they use foreign sympathy.
If any of your readers can beat the following for outrageous profiteering, I shall be glad to hear of it Two or three days ago wishing to purchase a % lb. tin of Capstan tobacco, the price at a Chinese store on Avenue Joffre was $2 being an increase of 25 cents on undoubtedly old stock.
Yesterday afternoon wishing to buy another 34 lb. tin of the same tobacce, the first Chinese shop on Avenue Joffre asked $2.80. the second, $2.75. and the third $3 and in each case they did not show any embarrassment.
Out of curiosity I then tried a Chinese shop in Seymour Road near Bubbling Well Road corner and found the price had dropped to $2.75.
Needless to say I refused to be robbed.
I wonder if the distributors of Capstan Tobacco would give the public any idea of a fair price to pay. However in future I shall keep an open mind, as to the Chinese being worthy of sympathy-
