Labour House Clearing J. R. Stedman, chief of the

Conciliation Service of the Department of Labour, announced to-day that the Department had formally intervened in an attempt to halt the months-long fight between the American Federation of Labour and the Committee for Industrial Organization.

The labour split, which began with differences of opinion over questions of organization, has spread to include bitter argument over all jurisdictional matters, and an effort at reconciliation made by the labour groups themselves a short time ago failed to reveal any; basis for peace.

Mr. Stedman said that present efforts were being directed at the dispute between the American Radio Telegraphists Association, a C.LO. affiliate, and Commercial Telegraphers Union, an A.F.O.L. member.
