Inexperience on the part of the younger Chelmis and Duff prevented them from springing a further surprise against Flood and Wisen. The home couple made a brilliant start and won the opening game gracefully by 15-4. In the second session the French players showed signs of a comeback in being able to outplay their opponents, leading two times by fair margins 5-2 and 11-6. Thereafter the ultimate losers woke to, life and succeeded in levelling the score at 11 all At this stage both sides play: tensely with the result that many golden opportunities were wasted, especially by the younger ones who lost time after time finally to give away the game by 15-12.
The same situation was witnessed in the third and deciding game. The visitors got away first to an advantage of 10-4. Here Chelmis and Duff covered their form and care surging back with a long chain of points and had reached a score of 14-10. With one more point the Churchmen could have won the match but most amazingly they failed to keep their end up and permitted their opponents to finish on the long end of a 15-14 count
