British Guiana is still not certain.
The two star athletes in British Guiana, Phil Edwards and the swimmer, Leonard Spence, have left the colony. Edwards is a doctor in Barbados and Spence has a position in New York. The authorities have written asking them if they ave free to compete but they are not hopeful of a favourable reply. This means that there will probably be no entry from British Guiana.
Canada expects to do well in the women's events. Miss Robina Higgins, of Winnipeg, has hurled a javelin a distance of 127 ft. and it is thought that this should be hard to beat. Miss G. Lunn, of England, won the javelin in the last Empire Games with a throw of 164 ft 7% ins. An outstanding challenger for the 100 yards event is Miss Aileen Meagher, of Halifax, who has rum the distance in eleven seconds. The best time in the 1934 games was 11 3/10 seconds by the winner, Miss Eileen Hiscock, of England. Canada also expects to retain the 660 yards relay championship won in London in 1994.
