The residence of Mr. C. O. Cumming at 228 Hungjao Road was broken into by a small party, of armed Japanese soldiers on Monday evening at about 630 pin, it was reported yesterday.
A Chinese gardener and a coolie, who' were looking after the house, were victims of the uninvited visit, as the Japanese were said to have taken a total of $47 away from them There were no other occupants at the time, The house has been vacated: and there is very little of value in it.
The money taken away from the two Chinese servants represents their wages and the Chinese New Year gratuity which were paid them by Mr. Cumming.
A complaint against the incident is understood to have been lodged with the responsible authorities.
