Silver Lining

We are a wonderful people for spotting that silver lining to all our clouds. True it is noticeable that those with the golden touch seem to have clearer visions into the silver spheres and are loudest in shouting that the lining is about to show through; quite à number of the less happily placed are concerned mainly in keeping out of the deluge which the black side of our clouds is pouring upon them. Methinks there is a lot of the Mrs. Wiggs philosophy about our good selves; our pigsty is burned and the winter pig lost, but we smile and say, "Thank heaven it wasn't the baby." I suppose that when we are relieved of the baby we are just now holding for somebody or another we shall exclaim at our good luck in having our hands free and not notice that our feet are stuck like those of flies on a flypaper deep into further troubles for our confusion. Shanghai is indeed a wonderful place!
