A friendly two-evening between a Schools Combined XI and the Recreation Club on the latter's ground was started yesterday at 5.30 pin, when the Recs won the toss and batted first. The strong Club side, however, could do little against the steadiness of the Schools' attack, and were dismissed for the low score of 93 just before 7 o'clock.
Of the Recs, J. R. Macdonald did well ta, pile up 21 useful runs, while W. Murray and R. Murray returned 19 and 13 respectively to prevent a serious rot setting in. The Schools snappy fielding kept the rate of scoring down to a minimum, while the opposing batsmen were frequently puzzled by the deliveries of R. Burn and H. Rogge. From the other end A. J. Harvey kept a steady length, while P. Brewer, an improved change bowler, kad bad luck when several good balls just failed to do the trick.
The Schools bat today, starting at 5 pin. sharp, and an interesting finish is expected.
