B—Bid Berlin Bourse Berlin, July 13.
When the share market opened today it was found that selling orders predominated but not to the same extent as for some days past. The first effect was that prices declined still further but not all sections of the bourse were affected nor were the declines as great as previously After the selling orders had been dis posed of, banks placed a number of buying orders on behalf of investors with the result that prices recovered somewhat and the market assumed a very friendly tone which lasted until shortly before closing time. Both the favourable report about the labour market in June as well as the continued demand for iron proved good supports to the market.
Fixed interest securities were not uniform. Selling orders predominated mostly but price declines were only small, Call money stood at 2% to 3 per cent.—Trans-Ocean, London Silver Market London, July 13.
Messrs. Samuel Montagu and Comin their weekly bullion letter,:—The reluctance of sellers, together with moderate bear covering, caused a further advance of London silver prices during the past week. Conditions were quiet and lacking new features, The present price level is apparently having little attraction for operators, Although mainly limited to yesterday's rates, offerings were rather more in evidence today, but were absorbed by Continental buying.
Present prices appear to be sufficiently high, but a reaction may be retarded, in view of hesitation on the part of sellers—Reuter, Trade for June According to the monthly returns issued by the Chinese Maritime Customs covering the foreign trade of Shanghai, net Imports during June 1938 totalled $18,775,503.
