Being Prepared

SPECIAL TO: THE "N.CD.N."

Moscow, Feb. 16.

The rescue of the Soviet ex-blorers floating on an icefloe in the Arctic region seems to be nearer.

Rescuers on board the Soviet icebreaker Taimyr reported to-day that wireless conversations with M. Ivan Papanin, leader of the Soviet North Pole Meteorological Expedition, were taking place twice daily.

The airmen on board the Taimyr are at present preparing an emergency landing ground on another ice-floe for its aeroplanes, as it is intended, if possible, to effect the rescue of the marooned scientists by this means.

The scientists have been drifting helplessly on a ledge of ice off the north coast of Greenland since February 1.

A Danish rescue party, headed by Eighl Nielsen, is expected to reach. North Point, on the Liverpool Coast, Greenland, to-night. The Soviet ex-blorers are said to be only 31 east of the Liverpool coast—Reuter;
