Franco-British Demarches?

London, Feb. 15.

Great Britain will send a demarche to Berlin and Vienna shortly, reminding them of London's major interest in the maintenance of Austria's independence, and may ask France to do the dame, it was learned here today.

It is understood that a lengthy conference on the question took place this afternoon between Mr. Anthony Eden, the Foreign Secretary, and M. Charles Corbin, French Ambassador to Great Britain Some observers are very much impressed by the fact that Signor Mussolini was not able to oppose the first steps of the "nazification" of Austria, thereby disclosing Italy's renewed weakness, These observers expect that the Austro-German accord will induce Rome to recall the Italian troops from Spain.

Circles closely connected with the non-intervention committee said today that there are some indications confirming this view.—Havas.
