World Sprint Champion Is Playing in Band Chicago, Feb. 15.
Jesse Owens breezed into an office of the National Amateur Athletic Union to see about a basketball game and wound up with a chance for reinstatement as an amateur athlete.
It took the Negro sprint champion just two minutes to convince J.
Jyman Bingham of the A. A. U. that there were no grounds for charges Of professionalism against Jesse's touring basketball team Then Bingham said suddenly: "Jesse, why don't you make application to the A. A. U. for reinstatement? Do you know our Board of Governors is empowered to reinstate an athlete under certain circumstances?"
Bingham told Owens the procedure for reinstatement applications was to apply through his home A. A. U. chapter in Cleveland and the matter would be passed on for final action by the National Board of Governors.
