The s. Wingsang, latest addition to the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company, and one of the most up to date coasters in the East, arrived on her maiden voyage yesterday at 5.30 p.m. from Hongkong and Swatow commanded by Capt. S. J. Barden, and berthed at the Roosevelt Terminal Wharf, where she was met by numerous officials of Jardine Mathesón & Ca. including Mr. W. J. Keswick, senior partner, Mr. C. T. Tod, manager of the Shipping Department, Mr. E. F. Ratti, Commdr. F. H, E. Skyrme, Mr. A. Fraser, Capt A. R. Williamson, and many others.
Her stately simple lines, the new type funnel, the 30 ft. steel lifeboats carried amidships by- patent davits of the over frame type and the Jardine crest on her bow made her easily distinguishable from other coasters in the harbour as she steamed by last afternoon.
Launched on June 2 in Hongkong by Mrs. D. F. Landale, wife of the Managing Director of Messrs. Jardine Matheson & Ca., she completed her trials ten days ago and left Hongkong this Sunday on her maiden voyage to China ports. On her way here she called in Swatow and was enthusiastic cally received in that port, where over a thousand foreign and Chinese prominent members of Swatow community were received aboard and inspected the vessel. Fog delayed the vessel between Hongkong and Swatow but from that port the weather was fine and Wingsang made excellent time for the rest of the trip.
